The number of ASIC-registered financial advisers went down by 0.4% through the 12 months to end December 2025 to reach 15,257.
The net decrease in number of advisers was 61 for the year to December 2025.
The December quarter saw a small decline in total number of advisers by 1.2% or by actual number, 189.
Number of licensees
AFSL numbers appear to have plateaued just below 1,900.
The total number of advice licensees fell 1.9% during the 12-month period but fell 0.6% in the December quarter.
There are now 1,853 AFSLs operating in Australia.
The middle size AFSLs in the size bands of 11-50 and 51-100 collectively increased their total number of advisers by 15% over the 12 months.
The fastest falling were AFSLs with 101-250 advisers which decreased in aggregate by 7.4% over the 12 months.
During the December quarter, the only size groups that grew were 1-2, 51-100 and 101-250. Together they added 288 advisers, while all other size AFSL declined.
Registered advisers operating through super fund-owned AFSLs fell 4.8% over the 12 months.
Adviser movements
In the 12 months to December 2025, 1,675 registered financial advisers registered with a new AFSL.
The five AFSLs attracting the most advisers were Alliance Wealth, Akumin Financial Planning, Interprac, Charter Financial Planning and Consultum.
Of the biggest 30 AFSLs with the most new adviser registrations, 50% were non-aligned.
Fortnum Advice, Endeavor asset, and Ord Minnett were the AFSLs showing a net increase in the number of advisers.
Fortnum Advice added most number of advisers (38) in 12 months to December 2025.
SMSF Advisers, Merit Wealth, and Findex were the AFSLs showing the biggest net decrease in adviser numbers.
